The Front Nine, Hole by Hole

Par 36 and 3,266 yards from the blue tees: two par fives, two par threes, five par fours, and one of the sharpest doglegs on the course.

Holes 1 through 9 were the second nine built, finished around 1975, and they are the nine the Town of Shallotte approved for reopening in March 2025. Together they play to par 36. The yardage is 3,266 from the blue tees, 3,083 from the white, 2,821 from the gold and 2,324 from the red. The directions below are calculated from the GPS hole positions published by GolfTraxx.com.

The opening hole is a par 4 of 395 yards that plays to the northeast, and the scorecard makes it the hardest hole for men, handicap 1. The second is the first par 5, 518 yards, still heading northeast. The third is a par 3 of 158 yards that turns to the southeast, the shortest hole on the course from the blue tees.

The fourth is a 397-yard par 4 playing southeast. The fifth is the one golfers remember. It also starts southeast and is 415 yards long, but the mapped centerline swings about 100 degrees to the right around the 250-yard mark. The straight-line distance from tee to green is only about 275 yards, so the dogleg adds roughly 140 yards to the walk.

The sixth is a par 5 playing due west. At 456 yards from the blue tees it is the shortest par 5 on the course, and it is only 337 yards from the red tees. The seventh is a 384-yard par 4 that heads west and bends gently to the northwest, about 33 degrees to the right.

The eighth is the shortest par 4 at 332 yards, but it bends the other way. It starts north and turns about 53 degrees to the left toward the west, so the green is only about 305 yards in a straight line. The ninth is the longest par 3, 211 yards to the southwest. Its green sits only about 70 yards from the tenth tee and 68 yards from the first, so the nine finishes where the course began.
