The Back Nine, Hole by Hole

The original 1969 holes: par 36, 3,377 yards from the blue tees, 111 yards longer than the front, with a sharp dogleg right on the tenth.

The back nine is the older half of Brierwood. These are the holes opened by the end of 1969, which became the back nine when the new holes were finished around 1975. They also play to par 36, but from the blue tees they measure 3,377 yards, 111 yards more than the front. From the white tees it is 3,192, from the gold 2,945 and from the red 2,516.

The tenth is a 393-yard par 4 that starts east and turns about 87 degrees to the right, ending up heading south. The straight-line distance from tee to green is only about 294 yards. The eleventh is a 367-yard par 4 playing southeast, one of several holes on this nine that run close to straight lines on the map.

The twelfth is a par 5 of 518 yards playing west, tied with the second as the longest on the course. The thirteenth, a 404-yard par 4, turns around and plays north-northeast, and the fourteenth is a 175-yard par 3 heading north.

The fifteenth is the longest par 4 on the course at 419 yards, playing west. The sixteenth is almost as long at 416 yards. It starts northwest and bends about 36 degrees to the left toward the west. The seventeenth is a 182-yard par 3 to the northeast.

The eighteenth is a 503-yard par 5 playing east, back toward where the day started. Its green is about 168 yards from the first tee. On the scorecard it carries men's handicap 18, the last number on the card.
