Two years after the purchase, the land moved into a corporation. Brierwood Golf Club, Inc. took title on a deed dated January 22, 1969 and recorded January 31, 1969 in Book 227, Page 45. Bennie B. Ward and Jamie B. Ward conveyed about 572 acres, less a right-of-way, to the company. The community's history says the corporation was then owned by Dr. Ward and Jamie Ward, and that Dr. John Madison and Willie Ward became partners around that time to help with planning and construction.
A string of lender paperwork follows. A release to the company was recorded on February 17 (Book 221, Page 114), and deeds from a substitute trustee on May 16 (Book 223, Pages 115 and 118). Later in the year Brierwood Golf Club, Inc. gave deeds of trust of its own, recorded September 17 (Book 225, Page 547) and October 28 (Book 233, Page 130, described as 572 acres), along with a second release recorded the same day (Book 233, Page 122).
That last detail matters for reading the maps that come next. A deed of trust describing 572 acres in October 1969 shows the land was still held and pledged as a single tract even as the first lots were being mapped. The golf course and the lots were one project, which is why the earliest maps are titled Brierwood Golf Club Estates.
