Brierwood Today and Tomorrow

An annexation petition for the clubhouse parcel, a permit clock that started in March 2025, and a community heading toward its 60th anniversary in 2027.

The permit approved in March 2025 was not the last item on the Town's agenda. On September 2, 2025, the Shallotte Board of Aldermen held a public hearing on a petition from Blum Investment Group Golf LLC to annex the clubhouse parcel at 27 Brierwood Road into the Town. The petition, dated July 21, 2025, covered about 3.10 acres described as a single-family lot, and the agenda carried a motion to adopt Annexation Ordinance 25-22.

The published reporting this website has reviewed does not record how that vote went. Residents who want the outcome should consult the Town's meeting minutes for September 2025 or contact the Town planning office. The rest of the course property, as of the March hearing, remained in the Town's extraterritorial jurisdiction rather than inside the town limits.

The special use permit set a clock. Improvements were required to begin within twelve months of the March 4, 2025 approval. Golf directories still listed the course as closed through mid-2026, and the Association will post any news of work on the course as it becomes available.

The community, meanwhile, keeps going. The Brierwood Association is approaching its tenth year. The Ladies Club turns 40 in 2026. This website was rebuilt in 2026 with a members' forum, a community calendar that accepts event suggestions from residents, and this series of articles.

October 10, 2027 will mark sixty years since Dr. Ward's deed. Whether or not golfers are back on the front nine by then, Brierwood will be what it has been since the Queen's Grant lots sold in 1969: a neighborhood in the pines that its residents look after themselves. If you have photographs or memories of Brierwood's early years, the Association would like to hear from you through the contact page.
